According to detailed monthly data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, it has been reported that tourist arrivals and nights spent in the country continued to increase in the second month of 2022.
Statistics show that in commercial accommodation facilities in February 2022, there were 226,000 arrivals and 570,000 tourist nights spent, which was 121,000 tourist arrivals and 324,000 more tourist nights than in February 2021, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
Meanwhile, in terms of domestic tourists, there were recorded 110,000 arrivals and 236,000 nights recorded in February 2022, which was 26,000 arrivals and 69,000 tourist nights more than in February 2021.
Slovenians account for the majority of arrivals and tourist nights spent in Croatia in February 2022.
“The most foreign tourist arrivals and nights in February 2022 were realised by tourists from Slovenia, as much as 31,000 arrivals and 74,000 nights, which accounted for 26.7 per cent of the total foreign tourist arrivals and 22.3 per cent of the total foreign tourist nights,” data from Croatian Bureau of Statistics reveals.
In addition, nights spent by tourists from Austria result in 11.0 per cent, Germany 10.6 per cent, Italy 6.3 per cent, USA 6.1 per cent and Bosnia and Herzegovina 5.9 per cent.
The highest number of tourist nights was marked in the group Hotels and similar accommodations in February 2022, at 344,000, which constitutes 60.3 per cent of the total recorded tourist nights. Compared to February 2021, there were 209,000 more nights.
“These were followed by tourist nights realised in group Holiday and other short-stay accommodation, as much as 193,000, which was 33.8 per cent of the total realised tourist nights. In the group Camping sites and camping grounds, there were 33 thousand nights realised, which was 5.9 per cent of the total realised tourist nights,” the Croatian Bureau of Statistics shows.
59,000 Rooms, Apartments & Campsites at the Disposal of Tourists
The results of this survey also show that in February 2022, tourists had at their disposal 59,000 rooms, apartments, and campsites with 140,000 permanent beds.
Tourists had at their disposal 27,000 rooms and apartments that belonged to the group Hotels and similar accommodations, which included 44.9 per cent of the total number of rooms and apartments available with 52,000 permanent beds, which means it was 37.0 per cent of the total number of permanent rooms available beds.
Thus the average occupancy rate of rooms in February 2022 was 28.6 per cent and of permanent beds was 25.2 per cent.
Most Nights Were Spent in the Region of Istria
The region of Istria recorded the largest number of tourist nights in February 2022, with about 146,000, which was 25.7 per cent of the total number of tourist nights.
Compared to the same period of 2021, this is an increase of 107,000 tourist nights. They are followed by the city of Zagreb with 104,000 nights, which accounts for 18.2 per cent of the total tourist nights, and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar Region with 95,000 tourist nights, which accounts for 16.6 per cent of the total tourist nights.
Compared to the first two months of 2021 in the same period of 2022, tourists realised 398,000 arrivals and 1.1 million nights in commercial accommodation, which was an increase of tourist arrivals by 206,000 and 581,000 tourists nights.
Domestic tourists have realised 209,000 arrivals and 481,000 nights in the first two months of 2022, which was 54,000 arrivals and 141,000 nights more than in the same period a year ago.
Whereas in the first two months of 2022, foreign tourists realised 189,000 arrivals and 595,000 nights, which was an increase of tourist arrivals by 152,000 and tourist nights by 440,000.
Most foreign tourist nights were realised by tourists from Slovenia, resulting in 17.7 per cent, Germany 11.6 per cent, Austria 10.7 per cent. Italy then ranks 6.6 per cent, and the US and Bosnia and Herzegovina at 6.4 per cent each.
